Overview
Translational science is concerned with using observations made in the laboratory, clinic, and community to develop interventions that improve the health of individuals and populations. These interventions may be new diagnostics, therapeutics, clinical procedures, and even behavioral changes. At IEPI, we are interested in ethical questions that arise along the translational pathway, such as: What ethical challenges arise from innovations in clinical trial designs and from the introduction of novel diagnostics and therapeutics? How can ethics enable the science and technology to create more low-cost, accessible health interventions in low- and middle-income countries? In this research pillar, we engage in ethical reflection to improve the quality of projects and programs for more equitable outcomes in global health research.
